Purpose:

C.C.S.B.A. sponsors a post-graduate training programme for psychotherapists that prepares them to practice Bioenergetic Analysis.  The training programme is accredited by the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (I.I.B.A.) in New York.  The teaching faculty are international trainers from the I.I.B.A. faculty who are accountable to the I.I.B.A. for the training curriculum and the certification of graduates as Bioenergetic Therapists (C.B.T.).

The following provides information about the Faculty, the curriculum, certification requirements, prerequisites, and how to apply for the training programme:

The Faculty:

Louise Frechette, M.Ps., C.B.T., has been a practicing psychologist in Montreal, Quebec since 1976.  She has been practicing Bioenergetic Analysis since 1980 and was certified as a C.B.T. in 1982.  Louise has been a member of the international faculty of the I.I.B.A. since 1992, and has taught Bioenergetic Analysis in France, Spain, New Zealand, Texas, Montreal, Edmonton, and Toronto.  Louise is also trained in Psychosynthesis and in Ericksonian Hypnosis.

Dr. Marilyn Morinis, Ed.D., C. Psych., C.B.T., is a certified clinical psychologist in private practice in Toronto.  She has been a member of the international faculty of the I.I.B.A. since 1990, and has taught bioenergetic analysis in Portugal, Israel, Edmonton and Toronto.

The Curriculum:

The training programme is a 5-year programme combining workshop instruction, personal therapy, and supervised work with clients.  It is divided into two phases: pre-clinical, and clinical.

Pre-clinical Phase

This first phase of the programme is three years long.  During this phase, the trainee learns:

  1. the historical foundations and core principles of Bioenergetic Analysis
  2. The relationship between Bioenergetic Analysis and theories of developmental psychology
  3. the etiology, bodily manifestations, core defensive behaviour and energetic processes associated with specific character structures
  4. the reading of movement and mobilization of energy in the body, and the physical representation of psychological attitude
  5. Bioenergetic techniques and their effects on the body's energetic process, in service of facilitating self-awareness, self-expression and self-possession in the client.

Clinical Phase

During this second phase, which begins in the fourth year of the programme, the trainee:

  1. expands upon and integrates the knowledge and skills acquired during the pre-clinical phase in preparation for practice
  2. begins to work with clients under the supervision of the teaching faculty.

Certification Requirements:

For certification as a Bioenergetic Therapist (C.B.T.), a trainee must:

  1. have completed at least 96 hours of training workshops each year over a 5-year period
  2. have successfully completed an annual evaluation process
  3. have completed 150 hours of personal bioenergetic therapy with a Bioenergetic Therapist (C.B.T.), at least 70 hours of which must be with one therapist
  4. have completed 50 hours of supervision with approved supervisors, at least 35 of which must be individual supervision
  5. be recommended by two members of the international faculty for certification.

The teaching faculty has the right to deny certification to any trainee not considered to be personally or professionally qualified.
